In our consumerist world, is electronic waste the elephant in the room… the next big crisis hiding behind climate change, political turmoil, war and all the other calamities dominating the headlines? If we look at the global trends around the statistics for e-waste generation, in 2022 we’ve actually generated 62,000 tons of e-waste which is an 82% increase from 2010 and then that’s projected to increase by a further 33% by 2030. It’s the fastest growing waste stream in the world. Especially in the African context, there’s not a lot of infrastructure that supports the collection mechanism to collect electronic waste and to get it to an appropriate recycler.
